Snuglee small double floor bed set up as a Christmas surprise

Christmas Kids Bed Guide (UK 2026): Delivery, Deals & Room for Guests

by Emma Whitlow on Oct 19 2026

A new bed is one of those Christmas presents children remember for years: the first "big kid" bed, a room that suddenly feels like theirs, a place to read their new books on Boxing Day morning. It's also one of the more practical gifts you can give, especially if you're expecting family to stay over the holidays and need to rethink who sleeps where.

This guide covers everything you need to plan a new kids bed around Christmas: when to order, how to make the most of our Black Friday and Boxing Day offers, how to set it up as a surprise, and how a slightly larger bed can make room for visiting family.

When Should You Order a Kids Bed for Christmas?

All Snuglee beds are stocked in our UK warehouse, and orders are usually delivered within 1–3 days. December is different, though. It's the busiest time of year for UK couriers, and deliveries can take longer than usual even when an order leaves the warehouse on time. If you need the bed for Christmas, we recommend ordering by early December, ideally during Black Friday. That leaves a buffer for any courier delays, plus a few spare evenings to assemble the bed before the big day.

A simple timeline that works for most families:

  • Late November: order during Black Friday to get the best price and the most time for delivery.
  • Early December: buy a mattress in the right size from a mattress retailer, plus new bedding, so everything is ready at the same time.
  • A weekend before Christmas: assemble the bed while the children are out, at school or asleep.
  • Christmas Eve: make up the bed with new bedding, ready for the reveal.

For more on how delivery and flat-pack assembly work, see our guide to how delivery and assembly work when buying a kids bed online.

Black Friday or Boxing Day: Which Offer Should You Use?

We're offering 30% off on Black Friday and again on Boxing Day. The discount is the same, so the right choice depends on when you need the bed:

  • Want it under the tree? Choose Black Friday. You get the same 30% saving, with time to spare for delivery and assembly even if couriers are running behind.
  • Planning a New Year room refresh? Boxing Day is ideal if the bed doesn't need to arrive before Christmas, for example if you're redecorating in January or moving your child out of the cot after the holidays.

Keep an eye on our kids beds collection during both sale periods.

Is a Bed a Good Christmas Present for a Child?

For many children, yes, especially if they're ready to move into their first proper bed. A new bed marks a milestone, and making it a Christmas present can turn a change some children find unsettling into something exciting.

A few ideas for making it feel like a gift rather than a piece of furniture:

  • Let them choose the bedding. Wrap a new duvet set, pillow or night light as a "clue" under the tree.
  • Do a room reveal. Keep the bedroom door closed on Christmas morning and open it together.
  • Add a reading corner. A low bed, a basket of new books and a soft light make the bed somewhere they want to spend time, not just somewhere they're sent at bedtime.

If your child is still in a cot, it's worth checking they're ready for the move first. Our guide on when to transition to a toddler bed explains the signs to look for, and why the busy holiday period isn't always the best moment for a big sleep change.

Making Room for Guests: Why a Bigger Kids Bed Helps at Christmas

Christmas often means grandparents, cousins or friends staying over, and the spare room isn't always spare. A slightly larger children's bed can make the whole house easier to share:

  • A parent can sleep alongside. If visiting relatives take your room or the guest room, a small double or double bed gives a parent space to sleep next to a child for a few nights.
  • Cosy for siblings or cousins. Older children often love sharing a bigger bed for a holiday sleepover.
  • Story time for two. Even after the guests leave, the extra width makes bedtime reading together more comfortable.

Because Snuglee floor beds sit low to the ground, there's no high edge to worry about if a child is sharing for the first time or isn't used to the bed yet.

Which Size Is Right for Your Family?

Size Fits mattress Frame size Best for
Single 90 × 190 cm 200 × 100 cm Smaller bedrooms and box rooms
Small double 120 × 190 cm 200 × 130 cm Room to grow, story time with a parent, sibling sleepovers
Double 135 × 190 cm 200 × 145 cm The most space; a parent can comfortably sleep alongside

All three sizes are made from knot-free solid pine and are recommended from 4 years. Before you order, measure the room and check you'll still have space to walk around the bed. Our UK bed and mattress size guide can help.

Don't Forget the Mattress

Snuglee makes bed frames only, so you'll need to buy a mattress separately from a mattress retailer of your choice. Plan this alongside your bed order, as mattress deliveries can also be delayed in December: a bed delivered on time is no use on Christmas Eve if the mattress is still on its way. Each of our frames takes a standard UK mattress size (see the table above), so you'll have plenty of choice. Pick one that matches the frame size exactly, with no gaps around the edges.

Depth matters too. For Snuglee beds, we recommend a mattress 10–20cm deep. The frame and side rails are 30cm high, so a thinner mattress keeps the rails comfortably above the sleeping surface. Many mattresses sold for floor sleeping are deeper than 20cm, which is too thick for a railed floor bed. Our guide on how to choose the perfect mattress for a kids bed explains what else to look for.

Setting Up Before the Big Day

Snuglee beds arrive flat-packed with all the fittings included, and our step-by-step assembly instructions keep things straightforward. To keep the surprise:

  • Hide the boxes somewhere the children don't go, such as the garage, a wardrobe or a relative's house.
  • Assemble the bed in the room it's going in, as a fully built bed is hard to move through doorways.
  • Recycle the packaging before Christmas morning so there are no clues left lying around.

Thinking long term? Every Snuglee floor bed can later be raised with our set of 20cm legs, adding airflow and under-bed storage as your child grows, without buying a new bed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does delivery take?

Snuglee beds are stocked in the UK and usually arrive within 1–3 days of ordering. In December, couriers are much busier and deliveries can take longer than usual, so if you need the bed for Christmas we recommend ordering by early December.

Is there a Christmas discount on Snuglee beds?

We offer 30% off on Black Friday and on Boxing Day. If you want the bed before Christmas, the Black Friday offer gives you the same saving with time to spare for delivery.

What size bed is best if I sometimes need to sleep next to my child?

A small double (120 × 190 cm) or double (135 × 190 cm) gives a parent enough room to lie alongside a child, which is useful when relatives are staying over.

Do you sell mattresses?

No. Snuglee sells bed frames only. Each frame takes a standard UK mattress size (single 90 × 190 cm, small double 120 × 190 cm or double 135 × 190 cm), which you can buy from any mattress retailer. We recommend a mattress 10–20cm deep, so the 30cm side rails sit comfortably above it.

What age are Snuglee beds suitable for?

Snuglee floor beds are recommended from 4 years. If your child is younger, read our guide to choosing the best toddler bed first.

Final Thoughts

A new bed can be one of the most meaningful Christmas presents you give a child, and with a little planning it can also make the holidays easier for the whole family. Order early, use the Black Friday offer if you need it before Christmas, sort out a mattress in the right size, and leave yourself an evening for assembly. Then all that's left is the reveal.
